1957 Chevy 210 2 door Sedan WIP

I've started this WIP and have a lot of parts in various stages of painting.  I read the SA review by Chuch K as a starting point.  The body looks a little bit short to me in the trunk area but that may just be me. There are a lot of extra parts and I think I got an extra tree from the 55 Chevy.  I have two each of the radiator, firewall, exhaust pipes and exhaust manifolds. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind getting extra parts but I always wonder what a beginner would do with this kit. The instructions make no reference to the extra parts but it is a bit confusing.

There is a nasty parting line at the back of the trunk in addition to the usual parting line around the headlight buckets and inner fender well. Since I am going to paint tropical turquoise I used Colorplace flat white as my primer and then painted the black pieces with Colorplace flat black. I'll use some lacquer clear on the parts that should be gloss, such as, the air cleaner and a few other parts. Sure is nice to paint when there is low humidity.  Even Colorplace flats come out better! Engine block is Tamiya Orange.  Thanks for looking! Cool

Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series takes to the track

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series spy photos

The Black Series epidemic has claimed the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as its latest victim. Our spy photographers recently managed to catch a few photos of the SLS AMG Black Series out for a little testing on the Nürburgring.

What will the vehicle bring to the table when the production version arrives? The whispers kicking around the web indicate that buyers will enjoy around 650 horsepower wrapped in a package that’s lighter than the standard car. The extra power and reduced weight should get the Black Series to 60 miles per hour in around three seconds flat.

No one knows for certain, but we feel confident in guessing that the machine will also embrace a host of suspension and brake modifications for an even higher performance threshold. Don’t think that all of those toys will come cheap, however. Chances are the model will cost over $500,000.

In Bad Taste: Dainese ads target organ donors

Dianese Organ Donor Ad

It’s no secret that EMTs, firefighters and emergency room nurses have a perverse sense of humor, especially when it comes to motorcycle riders. It’s a sort of defense mechanism against the visual horrors those occupations impart on those who work them, and with the mortality rate among bike riders as high as it is, there’s no wonder why motorcycles are called donorcycles in first-responder circles. Even so, these ads worked up by an agency for Dianese in 2007 embrace the morbid side of riding just a little too wholeheartedly. The ads apologize on behalf of the safety gear manufacturer for those still waiting for donor organs.

Having just recently bounced myself off of the pavement at a decent speed, I can vouch for Dianese’s proficiency at keeping your skin attached to your body and your bones in one piece, but the ads are still a bit much. The tag line, “We keep bikers from becoming donors” is pretty catchy, though.
